The theme for IPM 2012 is The Gesture - (political gestures, gestures of affection, hereditary gestures, cultural gestures, empty gestures, corporeal gestures – body language, and gestures towards communication – the gesture of writing, translation and reading).
International Poetry Month 2011 was a fabulous event that featured the work of 15 poets from 7 different countries and attracted more than 2000 readers in the course of 28 days.

The theme of 2011 was to write something Epic, Ode to or upon, Pangyric or Free-form lyric. The subject is the object:
“Aimer, ce n’est pas se regarder l’un l’autre, c’est regarder ensemble dans la même direction.”
“To love is not to look at one another: it is to look, together, in the same direction.”
– Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
This year I’m looking for work that tells the story, sings the praises of, or retells the story of some person, event, or object where you, the poet, are not the main character. If you need to write in the first person, take yourself on a transformative journey: epic in scope if not in length.
“A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral.”
“Un tas de pierres cesse d’être un tas de pierres au moment où un homme le contemple, entretenant en son esprit l’image d’une cathédrale”
- Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Submissions in any language will be considered. So…lets build something. Please submit your poetic brick (or stone or mortar or slender bit of lath sustaining a fluttering bit of rice paper) to:

The time has come to ask for submissions for International Poetry Month! I will post ten of my poems all circling around the subject of ‘the sacred’. These poems are the beginning of a new book that I’m working on with poems inspired by music, cadences, and stories that have been used as vessels for conveying both cultural information and emotive content.
I am both a passionate reader and a passionate writer. I believe that writing serves two excellent functions: it works as a tool to help both the reader and the writer digest, formulate, and reconsider ideas; and, it works as a creative discipline that binds the ephemeral nature of experience to the architecture of words…
In addition to my 10 poems I will post original poetry submitted to me between Jan. 22nd and February 10th of 2010. Happy reading and hope that you enjoy International Poetry Month! Submissions in any language will be considered. So…lets build something. Please submit your poetic brick (or stone or mortar or slender bit of lath sustaining a fluttering bit of rice paper) to:

I’ve declared the next 40 days, “International Poetry Month”. In celebration I am publishing a ‘blog book’ of my poetry complete with Illustrations by my companion and collaborator, Matthew Broussard. This ‘blog book’ will be offered one page every two days until the 10th of March 2009. On the 15th of March 2009 all of these pages will be deleted. While the book is posted you are welcome to cut, paste, print and otherwise take and use this poetry. The only thing I ask is that you give Matthew and I credit for the work we’ve done and don’t sell it, all of the poetry and images are under copyright in our names. You can make as fine a book of it as you’d like. To view the book ‘posts’ click on the word ‘Home’ above (for the most recent post) or on any of the individual posts shown in the sidebar to your right.
