Song for Sisyphus: by anonymous 20th century poet
Mountain at daybreak looms
Seismic formation to be scaled / conquered
Less awe more obligation
Tempers my approach.
Uniform monolith close
Reveals striations
Tenuous handholds of light and dark
And pockets bright of moss, sage, heather.
Into basin
Clear water splashes
Rivulets shaping / eroding
Release familiar floral fragrance.
Debris dislodged
Tumbles / spins
Into blind vortex
Away.
Summit beckons
Lift load damp
To sun drenched meadow
Hot breeze kisses sweat.
Today I climbed,
But distracted by a nap,
I can but stow artifacts of labor incomplete
Knowing with tomorrow’s mountain I begin again.
Sort / wash
Dry / fold
This mountain
Of laundry.
